Less than one-quarter of users reside in countries where the internet is designated Free, meaning there are no major obstacles to access, onerous restrictions on content, or serious violations of user rights in the form of unchecked surveillance or unjust repercussions for legitimate speech.

Nearly half of the 65 countries assessed in Freedom on the Net 2017 experienced declines during the coverage period, while just 13 made gains, most of them minor. Online content manipulation contributed to a seventh consecutive year of overall decline in internet freedom, along with a rise in disruptions to mobile internet service and increases in physical and technical attacks on human rights defenders and independent media.

Such state-led interventions present a major threat to the notion of the internet as a liberating technology. Governments around the world have dramatically increased their efforts to manipulate information on social media over the past year. The Chinese and Russian regimes pioneered the use of surreptitious methods to distort online discussions and suppress dissent more than a decade ago, but the practice has since gone global.

However there is much more depth to this game than meets the eye. This is the game play loop at the most basic level, acquire currency, die, level up, repeat. Every time I die in UnderMine (and you will die often), it always felt like it was my fault and that I still accomplished something by retaining some of my gold to perform permanent upgrades to my character for the next run. However, I am happy to say that Undermine has what other rogue-like games do not, balance. Most of the time what turns me off from a rogue-like is the brutal difficulty and the feeling I get of accomplishing next to nothing. There are a lot of rogue-like games that have come out through the years, some good and some bad. Time Commitment – Short, the game is saved after every run and between floors of your current run. Story – Arkanos the Archmage needs you to adventure through the depths of a mine to discover the source of earthquake tremors. Music/Soundtrack – Light adventure music plays in the background, I found it to be very relaxing! Graphics/Style – High definition retro-inspired graphics that fit with a mining / dungeon theme. High Level Premise – Rogue-like dungeon crawler with RPG progression system.
